On May 31, 2017, shortly after midnight, President Donald Trump posted one of the most mysterious tweets in political history:

“Despite the constant negative press covfefe.”
Most assumed covfefe was a typo for coverage. But before the tweet was deleted hours later, the word had already gone viral around the world. Trump later joined the joke himself, asking his followers who could figure out the “true meaning” of covfefe.
